HRH Queen Elizabeth II

Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving, Sunday 11th Sept, 6pm at Emmanuel Church, Apsley Road.

On Sunday evening we will hold a special service of prayer and reflection for all who would value a space to come and offer prayers, give thanks, and reflect on the life and the loss of the Queen.  This is a united benefice service for the churches of Grace Church, St Nicholas Kelston, and Emmanuel & St. John’s.

Books of Condolence

There will be a book of condolence available for contributions at Emmanuel on Sunday at 10pm.
Emmanuel Church will be open at various times, with the book of condolence available. Please check the website or church noticeboards for details.
The Church of England have an online book of condolence available via the C of E website
There is also a book of condolence available at The Guildhall.

Laying of Flowers

If you would like to lay flowers, these are being received at Parade Gardens.

Bath Abbey

Bath Abbey will remain open for quiet reflection and lighting of candles and will broadcast Her Majesty’s funeral.

We give thanks to God for the life and the example of Queen Elizabeth II, who modelled for us the kind of servant-heartedness, others-centeredness, love, and humility that Jesus calls all of His disciples to embody. Let us keep the royal family and those who were closest to the Queen in our prayers, and take hold of opportunities to speak gospel hope into the mourning of our nation

What’s On

We have regular groups that meet during the month: our toddlers group happens every Tuesday during term time from 1.30pm to 3.30pm; Messy Church meets on the first Monday of the month (second Monday if it’s a Bank Holiday); and Craft and Chat meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

We would love you to come and join us!

For more information about our groups, please see the pages on this website.

Christmas and New Year services

We hope you are enjoying the run-up to Christmas and feeling excited about celebrating together with friends and family too! We would love you to join us for our Christmas services:

Christingle Service at St John’s Church – Sunday 24th December at 4.00pm. An all-age service with a chance to make a Christingle. Mulled wine (for the grown-ups!) and mince pies.

Christmas Day Service with Lord’s Supper – Monday 25th December at 10am, ‘Come and Behold Him’. A family service celebrating the birth of Jesus.

New Year’s Eve Service – Sunday 31st December at 10am, ‘Come and Receive Him’.

Please note that there will be no morning service at Emmanuel Church on 24th December (just the 4pm Christingle service at St John’s Church, Upper Bristol Road, Lower Weston).

Emmanuel Church Garden Party on 28th August!

We’re planning a Garden Party in the Emmanuel Church grounds on Saturday 28th August from 3 p.m. till 6 p.m. – please come and join us!

There will be a barbecue, tea, coffee, homemade cakes and soft drinks (no entry charge, but donations towards the cost of food and drinks are welcome). Bring a picnic rug and your own drinks if you prefer. We’ll have games and face painting for the children too.

We can’t wait to be together to celebrate summer with our wonderful community of Newbridge and Lower Weston!

Summer services and groups

During the summer holidays, we will meet together at Emmanuel Church for a combined morning service with our friends from Grace Church Bath at 10.30 a.m. (not 9.30 a.m.) on Sundays from 25th July to 29th August inclusive. These will be all-age family services exploring the parables in Luke’s Gospel and will be led and preached by a combination of Emmanuel Church and Grace Church leaders.

There will continue to be a short reflective sevice in the evening at 6.30 p.m. too.

Fellowship groups and prayer meetings will not be held over the summer, so after the prayer meeting on 21st July, we will get together again next on 1st September for fellowship groups.

Sunday services are back!

From 14th March, we are running our Sunday services in the Emmanuel Church building again, taking care to adhere to all the government legislation and guidelines to ensure we are doing this in a Covid-compliant way. Please come along and join us at 9.30 am or 6.30 pm. We look forward to welcoming you!

At Easter, we are planning these services:

Good Friday service of readings & reflection – 2nd April at 10 am
Easter Day Service with Lord’s Supper – 4th April at 9.30 am

Lent course on YouTube

Please join us for this year’s Lent course “Seeing the Saviour”. Each week we will be showing a short video reflection on a great painting and the Gospel accounts of the final days of Jesus’s life. A member of the church family will share their thoughts on how these great masterpieces help us to engage with scripture, which we hope will inspire you as we journey through Lent together.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXX16BoV4wOzXIowbaCLiQw
